NLP is Neuro-Linguistic Programming - a name guaranteed to glaze the eyes of any polite enquirer. It is beautifully simple: it's just about you and me, and the way we think and how different we are.
Because we were born without a handbook for our brains, we each had to work out how to use them as we went along, and so we came across different ways of doing things - which might seem crazy to other people.
NLP simply applies objectivity (which is the way we are supposed to think - logically of course!) to subjectivity (which is the way that we really think - because we are humans rather than robots). Have you ever been in a situation where you knew exactly what you 'should' say or do - but blown it nonetheless? That was you, being human - just like the rest of us.
NLP is sometimes called the Study of the Structure of Excellence - a grand title for discovering how you are thinking when you are at your best, so that you can think that way whenever you want - and be your best whenever you want: in whatever field you choose to excel.
NLP also explores how other people think - from Chief Executives to Lion Tamers: how they have programmed their brains to excel in their fields; so that we can run the same programs in our brains if we want to excel in the field of our choosing.
It was created by Dr Richard Bandler PhD, in the early 1960s, while he was a student at the University of California Santa Cruz. There he joined forces with Dr John Grinder PhD - Professor of Linguistics - and they put a structure on the language that we use to stop ourselves from being our best. While all this was going on, Robert Dilts of the NLP University, Santa Cruz, was the young student following them around with his notebook.
Over time, the word has spread that there are easier ways of doing things, and NLP is now used, worldwide, in every field of human endeavour.
